I really liked the Hermeneutics class, because I actually looked in the Bible and got my own interpretation, not just someone else’s. In youth-group or church you usually only listen to what other people say, or you follow a set curriculum. Sometimes they have the verse up on a screen and you don’t even have to open your Bible. In the Hermeneutics class I could learn how to understand the Bible better and then take what I had learned in the class and practice the tools outside in my own studies at home. I didn’t have to wait for people to help me understand what I was reading. The class was hard, but I enjoyed it a lot.

It was with much anticipation that I enrolled in the Hermeneutics class taught by George Trickey. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. While I learned there are three basic tools to bible study (observation, interpretation and application) the one that really stuck with me is OBSERVATION! The reason I say that is the story of “the fish” that we read in the beginning. You can’t really be in a position to interpret and apply unless you spend time “looking, looking and looking again” and then going back and “looking again” and “again”. Studying God’s word takes time……but isn’t time really all we have, after all? I would highly recommend the class for anyone who is wanting to strengthen their relationship with Christ by looking into His word.

Taking the Hermeneutics class was like walking into Lowes and being given a life-time supply of free tools and how-to instructions. It’s wonderful knowledge to have. I am so encouraged to take the extra step of digging deeper into God’s word, because the class helped me see that there is great value in not settling for first impressions. The class was very well taught, and structured in a way that made acquiring the tools possible. I highly recommend it to anyone.

I especially enjoyed the Hermeneutics class taught by George Trickey. He shared with us techniques to observe God’s word in detail and helped us with interpreting and applying scripture to our lives. In addition to the bible study techniques, we learned some interesting history of the bible. Above all I enjoyed that the bible study class was attended by two of my children. This gave my wife and me an opportunity to watch them grow in their ability to understand and interpret God’s word.

When I heard that a Hermeneutics class was going to be offered at Christ’s Church, I was immediately interested. Although I have been a Christian for 25+ years and have tried to be diligent in reading my Bible, I had never been taught exactly how to study my Bible. Since taking the Hermeneutics class, I have learned different methods that I can now rely on to dig in even deeper in my study of the Word.
I like to equate it to getting my very first pair of glasses. When I put them on for the first time, I remarked to my dad as we were driving home from the eye doctor’s office, “I can see the signs now!” Although I could still see pretty well on my own before I received my glasses (my prescription wasn’t very strong), by using the tool that my doctor gave me (my glasses), everything was fine tuned and much clearer than before. Much like before I took the Hermeneutics class, I was able to discern a few things in Scripture, but since taking the class, I now have many additional tools that I can use to help me investigate and make clear the passages that I am studying. This class has fundamentally changed the way I read and study the Bible, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone who wants to better understand the scriptures.
